Many are legitimate programs that are extensively used and well know. They can cause your computer to have problems. Some have greater disruption than others.

Some cause simple annoyances with pop-up while others insert code into other programs and cause them to act in ways that you do designate. Some refuse to let you open certain programs, or applications that other programs need to use.

There are some that even allow others to gain access to your system and control it. This is one of the ways that spammers send off their mail. Most anti-viral programs will NOT find these programs and codes. Do not leave yourself vulnerable.
